About the Event

World Migratory Bird Day is on May 11th, an annual global campaign championing the conservation of migratory birds and their habitats. Join the WA Gould League in raising awareness and taking action to safeguard these incredible creatures.

The Herdsman Lake Discovery Centre is proud to present 'Wild Wanderings', a specially curated art exhibition and workshop series showcasing the beauty and fragility of Australia's migratory shorebirds. In this first workshop, learn introductory relief printing techniques to create a unique and beautiful shorebird artwork to be treasured always.

Led by artist and teacher Leigh Patterson-Kane, participants will work with soft-carve lino blocks, a medium that is easier to manipulate than traditional lino. With step by step instructions, print one or more designs on high quality cardstock that can be turned into a gift card or framed artwork. Be inspired by the surrounding gallery display of shorebird watercolour paintings and intricately crafted textiles that will be on display during the session.

This creative workshop is ideal for older children, teenagers and adults. However, it is not suitable for younger children as lino carving tools require a higher level of safety and control.

*Please note this is not a drop-off program, and adult supervision is required. Parents and carers are encouraged to participate in the workshop itself, or make use of the immediate grounds, coffee window and free Wifi.

Date: Saturday 11th May, 10.00am-12.00pm.

Cost: $35 per participant, includes all art materials and wooden frame. Ticket also includes entry to the Discovery Centre building. Parents and carers not participating in this workshop are free of charge. Friends of the WA Gould League receive a 15% discount off the ticketed price by signing into their membership upon checkout.

Location: Herdsman Lake Discovery Centre, Wembley.

Experience Needed: None; perfect for beginners. Best suited for children ages 10 years and over, through to adults.

What to Bring: Please wear encloses shoes and an outer layer to protect your clothing, such as an apron, smock, or old shirt.

Come and join us during Migratory Bird Week and support the Herdsman Lake Discovery Centre to continue to nurture a passion for nature.
